The Huntsville Art League is a cooperative, non profit organization, operated through the volunteer efforts of its members and friends.

Huntsville Art League’s MISSION is to promote understanding, appreciation, participation and general interest in the visual arts throughout the Tennessee Valley. This is accomplished through exhibition, education, and community outreach.

Huntsville Art League maintains classrooms, studio space and sale of art work by members, ongoing Exhibitors, and visiting artists.

Huntsville Art League provides educational programs and instruction for children and adults, sponsors workshops with prominent visiting artists, conducts demonstrations in various media, and hosts special exhibitions. HAL strives to provide a congenial and stimulating environment for nurturing visual literacy and expression.

Since its founding in 1957, Huntsville Art League has been a primary source of representation and support for local artists. For many years the organization was dedicated to the formation of a permanent Museum of Art in Huntsville, and for that purpose assumed the name Huntsville Art league and Museum Association (HALMA).

During that time, in cooperation with The Arts Council, the funding mechanisms and community support for the new institution were formed, leading to the rapid development of the Huntsville Museum of Art, our acclaimed and successful sister institution.

Over the years, Huntsville Art League has pioneered much of the visual art activity in the region, and has maintained close ties with college and university art departments. Additionally, Huntsville Art League has assumed the role of a regional Visual Art Center, serving the visual art interests of all citizens of the Tennessee Valley. We take great pride in our atmosphere of warmth and cooperation.

The gallery is packed with a wonderful display of all sorts of artwork. You will find pictures in oil, watercolor, pastel acrylic, and mixed media; photography, note cards, original jewelry, sculptures, glass-work, gourds, pottery, metalwork, hand-painted silk items, weavings, the occasional wood piece. All these are created by our local Tennessee Valley artists.
