Camp Woodmont is a traditional overnight summer camp for boys and girls ages 6-14. The camp is located on 170 acres of beautiful North Georgia woodlands on top of Lookout Mountain (approximately 1 hour north of Huntsville OR 30 minutes South of Chattanooga, Tennessee).
The summer camp experience provides cabin living, cool evenings around the campfire, creative counselors, new friends, talent/skit nights, and a close family-like atmosphere. Staff to camper ratio averages 1:5. Accreditation by the American Camp Association (ACA) and two generations of family management/ownership (70+ years combined experience) gives campers and parents a highly supervised program.
Camp Woodmont’s program feature traditional summer-camp activities with an emphasis on nature, outdoor adventure, horseback riding, noncompetitive sports, arts & crafts and more. The nondenominational Christian atmosphere is appropriate for children from all faiths. The lifelong dream of opening a summer camp for children was developed in 1959 when Jane and Jim Bennett (Mr. & Mrs. “B”) married. After 10 years of searching for the right property for a summer camp for children, they found it on Lookout Mountain. Their mutual experiences as counselors, college teachers, Sunday school teachers and parents were instrumental in the early success of Camp Woodmont.
When they opened the camp in 1981, their vision was, and always has been, to be a partner with parents to give campers the opportunity to build character, develop positive relationship, acquire skills and happy childhood memories that would last a lifetime. With carefully chosen, dedicated staff, Mr. & Mrs. B have provided thousands of campers (including their own grandchildren) with fun and exciting camping adventures and character building experiences.
The camp’s deep-seeded traditions, close family atmosphere and caring counselors make campers feel secure, welcome & reassured! Counselors are college-age and live in the cabins with the campers. Before ‘lights out,’ every cabin has devotional time, along with milk and cookies, delivered to each child’s bunk by Senior Staff.
The program is very well-suited to first-time campers: the camp has all of the traditional camp activities starting at an introductory level and the camp layout is very conveniently spaced out. We have a lot of returning campers as well!
