In 1993 a group of very talented, professional theatre people formed a company in order to present a production that co-founder Vivienne Atkins had long dreamed of bringing to the Huntsville stage, “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.” The inspiration came after viewing a riveting performance of “Sweeney Todd” at a cast party in 1985. Vivienne wa sthen motivated to pool the talent and creativity of Huntsville’s finest actors and technical artists for the project. The curtain went up and Independent Musical Productions (IMP) was born.
Since that production, IMP has attained non-profit status and has become a member of the Arts Council of Huntsville and the Chamber of Commerce of Huntsville/Madison County. The membership has expanded and IMP has become an established part of the local arts community. Many years worth of splendid productions have followed yielding not only wonderful talent and high quality performance but also a wide variety of musical entertainment that has been enjoyed by all of Huntsville’s avid theater-goers. Our favorite saying, We aren’t professionals we just ACT that way, inspires us in all that we do.
IMP’s status as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization means that your donations are 100% tax-deductible and donations are always welcome! Producing large-scale musicals is an expensive operation.
Our mission statement is: Independent Musical Productions, Inc. was formed for the purpose of producing top quality musical theatre in the Tennessee Valley area and to promote musical theatre arts in the active life of the community and the area.
