Huntsville Music Study Club

Non-Profit, Multi-disciplinary Arts Organization, Music, Bands

The Huntsville Music Study Club has been a vital part of the area’s music scene and has given a local voice to the goals of the National Federation of Music Clubs.  The club was founded in 1920 and three years later was a member of the National and Alabama Federation of Music Clubs.  HMSC gave its first scholarship in 1925 and these awards have continued to the present time.  The club gives at least six high school and college awards each year.  A number of these students go on to win state and national awards as well.  HMSC members have a long history of involvement in local music organizations and serve as performers, board members and patrons of community groups such as the symphony orchestra, community chorus, chamber music guild, and concert band.  One of the top priorities is working to encourage young musicians in scholarship awards as well as both fall and spring junior festivals in which over 200 students participate.  As sponsor of National Music Week, HMSC members take music awareness programs to schools, churches and the public in general.  The National Federation Collect sates as its overall goal “… to bring the spiritualizing force of music to the inner life of our nation.”  HMSC is dedicated to this goal.
