Heart of the Valley YMCA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community organization and United Way partner agency headquartered in Huntsville serving five counties in North Alabama – Madison, Marshall, Limestone, Morgan and Jackson – since it was chartered in 1910. Last year, 35,204 individuals were served in seven YMCA facilities including three membership branches, Southeast Family YMCA and Downtown Express YMCA in Huntsville and Hogan Family YMCA in Madison; three YMCA Early Childhood Education Centers in Downtown, Northwest and Southeast Huntsville; and YMCA Camp Cha-La-Kee on Lake Guntersville. Our character-building values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility are integral to everything we do.

The YMCA Mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The generosity of donors made it possible for the Heart of the Valley YMCA to provide vital programs and services valued at $756,405 to 7,418 neighbors who otherwise could not afford to pay for them including:

  • Child Care for financially hurting families headed by working parents.
  • Lifesaving water safety and swim education.
  • Memberships for families of deployed Military, Laid-off workers, and Community Service personnel including Policemen, Firemen and First Responders.
  • Outdoor camp experiences for under-served children and those with a deployed Military parent.

The YMCA Cause is strengthening community. We believe that positive, lasting personal and social change can only come about when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors. That’s why we focus our work in three major areas: Youth Development, nurturing the potential of every child and teen; Healthy Living, improving the nation’s health and well-being; and Social Responsibility, giving back and providing support to our neighbors.

At Heart of the Valley YMCA, we believe that when we devote our full strength to the Y Mission and cause, work in partnership with others, and build on our history of innovation, we can address the most pressing issues of our time unlike any other organization.

We believe that active and connected families make for active and connected communities. We believe that in a diverse world, we are stronger when we are inclusive and our doors are open to all. We believe in honoring our Mission, living our Cause and acting in accordance with our values and placing the greater good above self

  • For Youth Development
