Rickie Higgins - 2011 & 2012 Panoply Poster Artist

Peanut butter and jelly,

Jeans and t-shirts,

The moon and the stars,

Some things just go together.  

So it is with Rickie and books, most unfinished; 

Rickie and music flowing from his ipod or just dancing in his mind; 

So it is with Rickie and a fresh palette of oils waiting, each color volunteering to be the finishing touch.  

And most importantly it is with Rickie and his beautiful wife, Rebekah, who spoons cupfuls of organization into his recipe for creativity.

If you stand back and watch all the pieces fit together in Rickie’s life, you can see the hand of God giving abundant life to an undeserving soul.  Fluidly applying the oil to canvas, Rickie finds small slices of God’s masterpiece all around. It may be an inviting chair, and intriguing window, or a snapshot of European architecture that reflects the beauty of the world.  No matter the subject, you will find bold use of colors, heavy strokes of paint, and unrestricted perspectives in Rickie’s work.  As you enjoy his work, Rickie would challenge you to also appreciate the beauty in your own life.  It may be your 2 year-old niece’s giggle, your spouse’s skin, or eating your eighty year-old grandmother’s favorite recipe.  It may be the moon and the stars, because some things just go together.  Deann Herbert

Deann won her first art contest in 4th grade. It was a portrait of her mother. Deann received her BFA in 2000 from Auburn University, where she majored in graphic design. A prolific painter, you can catch her most days working in her studio located in the historic Factory at Franklin.
