SPACES
In December 2010, The Arts Council and partner organizations Alabama A&M University, Huntsville Museum of Art, Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment Center and UAHuntsville will launch SPACES, a community-wide sculpture trail featuring 25 large-scale visiting sculptures and 3 permanent sculpture installations. With thirteen sculptures placed in downtown Huntsville and fifteen additional sculptures at UAHuntsville, Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment Center and Alabama A&M University, SPACES will engage the public through walking, cellphone and GPS-guided tours as well as related educational workshops and tourist guides.
The 28 total sculptures featured in SPACES will reside in Huntsville/Madison County through August 2012. Designed as a biennial event, SPACES will bring 20 to 25 new pieces of public sculpture to the community in 2012.
Artists featured in the inaugural SPACES sculpture trail include Charles Brouwer, Austin Collins, Casey Downing, Bruce Larsen, Albert Paley, Craig Wedderspoon, Glenn Zweygardt and eight others selected by invitation.
