The Association

Community Ballet Association is the region’s resident company providing local training for lnvndance in the field of ballet. Huntsville Ballet Company and Huntsville Ballet School are under the umbrella of Community Ballet Association. CBA provides the community with a range of Education & Outreach programs and performs a variety of classical and contemporary works choreographed by masters and emerging artists. CBA presents a minimum of four productions annually and reaches an audience of approximately 20,000+ seasonally. Repertory is chosen, not only to entertain and inspire, but also to challenge the artists through an eclectic blend of classical, neoclassical, 20th Century masterworks, and new works created especially for Huntsville audiences. The company is highly regarded in the community for its high artistic standards and is nationally recognized in the field by such publications as Dance Magazine and Pointe Magazine.

History

Community Ballet Association was formed in 1964 through the efforts and leadership of LoydTygett. In 2008 Phillip Otto was engaged as Artistic Director of Huntsville Ballet Company and Phillip’s wife Rachel Butler, joined the staff as School Director/Ballet Mistress. Through the vision and leadership of Phillip and Rachel-Butler Otto, the company and school will enjoy substantial success and will continue to be widely recognized as the major leading arts organization. Phillip and Rachel have successfully chosen ballets that balance public appeal with works that stretch and develop the artistic capabilities of the dancers. The company and the school are highly regarded as a cultural asset to the community and consistently receive outstanding reviews for its artistic quality.

Mission

Community Ballet Association strives to be recognized as the preeminent dance organization in the Tennessee Valley. Our mission is to provide the highest caliber of dance training to all students, from the recreational dancer to those who plan to pursue a professional career. With Classical Ballet as the foundation for all dance art forms, CBA offers a safe learning environment, as well as limited class sizes for individual instruction and an appropriate curriculum for dancers of all ages and levels. CBA provides a qualified professional faculty and performance opportunities that assist students to develop technically and artistically. CBA puts deliberate emphasis on pre-professional achievement with each level carefully crafted to provide the most comprehensive training and coaching. CBA provides many opportunities for students to perform and work with world-renowned choreographers, teachers and guest artists. The Association’s Education & Outreach efforts have focused on working with students who are educationally at risk and on providing encouragement, enrichment, and role models to Huntsville's youth.
