Meg Tannehill Justice
All my art is inspired by the beautiful mountain and river valley of North Alabama where I live and from all the nature within.
I graduated from Auburn University with a BFA in illustration and have been a painter/illustrator all my life. I’ve been printmaking full time for the last four years, specializing in linocut prints.
These highly detailed single color linocut prints started as an original drawing or sketch which I transfer to a linoleum carving block. The design is then carved into the block, inked and handpulled individually from the carved block.
For the reduction method, a single block of linoleum is used to create a multi colored image. Parts of the lino are handcarved away and a color is printed. Further areas are then carved away and another color printed and so on, building up the layers.
The linoblock is destroyed as the carving away progresses making each one limited and unrepeatable.
