Carrie Alderfer, ChromAddict Studio
Carrie Alderfer has been a “color addict” for as long as she can remember. She is best known for her striking use of color and strong sense of design. Her love and appreciation of nature shines through in her works. From vibrant flower petals to fluffy fur, her focus on color and simplicity bring a fresh eye to the world around us. Currently she works primarily in colored pencils, but she also enjoys creating with acrylics and mixed media.
She graduated with honors from the University of Alabama in Huntsville with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art in 1997. Following college, she was employed with various companies as a graphic designer, web programmer and art director. In 2002 she launched ChromAddict Studio. Currently at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment, ChromAddict offers design services, fine art, gifts, and art classes. Her goal is to help others discover and share their visual voice, be it through a logo or website designed specifically for their small business, a custom piece of art for their home or office, or in an art class where their personal voice and creativity can be explored.
People describe her studio as “cozy and fun” with her colorful original art spicing up the walls. Giclée prints, hand painted pendants, ornaments, and trivets, cards, bookmarks, adult coloring books and many unique gifts are always available. Classes for children and adults are taught in the space. She offers private art parties for small groups. These are perfect for girl scouts working on a badge, birthdays, a night out with friends, or teambuilding. She also loves commissions and specializes in pet portraits.
Alderfer’s design work has garnered her over 30 American Advertising Awards. Her art has been included in the Colored Pencil Society of America’s International Exhibition, publications including “Art Galleries and Artists of the South”, Strokes of Genius 6, Colored Pencil Hidden Treasures, and Colored Pencil Cats & Dogs, and she was the featured artist in the Spring 2016 issue of Strathmore Paper’s Artist Newsletter. Alderfer often participates in local art festivals such as Panoply, Monte Sano Art Festival, and River Clay. She resides in Gurley with her husband, two boys, and six cats.
